NASA seeks methods to repair shuttles in flight

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, is hoping to develop techniques to allow a crew to repair damages to Space Shuttle in flight. NASA officials said techniques could be ready for the Shuttle's planned May 2005 return to space. The Shuttle's launch, which has been delayed several times, would be the first flight since the Columbia broke apart as it re-entered the Earth's atmosphere in February, 2003. That disaster killed the seven astronauts aboard and rained debris down on east Texas. It was caused by cracks in the protective tiles that were struck by a piece of foam during the shuttle's launch. NASA hopes that closer in-flight inspections and repairs could prevent a repeat of that incident. What do you think about that ? You can post your comments here.

Now you can put a water purifier in your house. Firefighters can breathe better. They have lighter air tanks. This means that firefighters can work more safely. Their air tanks are almost like the kind that astronauts used. Astronauts had to take air to breathe on the Moon. Apollo astronauts had to drill into the Moon rocks. Drills can be heavy. And who wants to take a long cord on the Moon? NASA had a company make a special drill. It was light. It did not have a cord. It used batteries. Now people use cordless power tools all the time.
